Spring Cleanup Day and Hanging Flower Baskets

Downtown PKB is organizing our annual Spring Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. Any individuals or organizations who would like to get involved with the cleanup are welcome to join us. Volunteers are asked to meet at Bicentennial Park. Participants will be given supplies (garbage bags, gloves, and safety vests) for the cleanup and instructions for the morning. At noon volunteers are invited to gather at Maka Mia Pizza at 327 Juliana Street for lunch to thank them for their contribution.

The Spring Cleanup Day event is sponsored by Union Bank. The groups who have already committed to helping us beautify our city include our Downtown PKB board members, employees of Hughes Properties and Jan Dils law offices, and the North Parkersburg Baptist Church Youth Group led by Adam Myers. As a part of these cleanup efforts, Chuck Hughes, a Downtown PKB board member and downtown business owner, is volunteering his time to power wash some planters on Juliana Street to prepare them for artwork that will be installed later in the year.

We are also busy working on securing sponsors for the beautiful hanging flower baskets that will be displayed along Market Street from May through September. The cost is $250 per basket and sponsorship funds donated to this project will go directly towards the purchase of flowers, and the planting, watering, and maintenance fees for the baskets. The artists at Wood County Society’s ArtBeat Studio will again paint the sponsor signs that will go in each flower basket.

If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring a hanging flower basket for the 2022 season, you can purchase them directly from our website at https://www.downtownpkb.com/light-post-flower-basket/light-post-flower-basket. If you or a group you are involved in would like to participate in the Downtown Cleanup Day on May 14, please email amanda@downtownpkb.com.
