Upcoming Winter Events

Two Downtown PKB events will be making their return before the end of the year. Both Small Business Saturday and Winterfest will be held within the next two weeks in downtown Parkersburg. Each will be returning with the same look and feel as they had before COVID-19. They are great opportunities to support the wonderful and unique businesses in downtown.

The first event on the calendar is Small Business Saturday, which will take place on Saturday, November 27 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., however individual store hours will vary. For a listing of participating businesses, their hours, and the specials they are offering, go to our website at downtownpkb.com or our Facebook page @downtownpkb under events. The small businesses who will be participating include – Art from the Heart at Wood County Society, Artsbridge, iTech, Blennerhassett Museum, Gyro King, Maka Mia Pizza, Market Street Yarn & Crafts, Mid-Ohio Valley Wedding Officiants, Nutrition Mission, Oil & Gas Museum, Parkersburg Art Center, Parkersburg Brewing Company, The Blennerhassett Hotel, The Cocktail Bar, Unity Café, and Wine Down on Market

The idea of Small Business Saturday was created by American Express over ten years ago. The campaign was launched to help small businesses gain additional exposure and to change the way consumers shop within their community during the holiday season. Each year this designated day has seen a steady increase in the amount of spending at locally owned businesses. When you shop local it benefits the small business, which in turn benefits our community. Celebrate this Small Business Saturday by shopping at the businesses you love, with the people you love, in the community you love.

The following week on Saturday, December 4, we will be hosting Winterfest. Winterfest was created to draw people to downtown for an evening of family fun. The event will kick off immediately following the Parkersburg Christmas Parade, and last until 6:30 p.m. The hub of the event will be located in Bicentennial Park, however other activities will be taking place throughout downtown Parkersburg.

Some of the activities taking place that evening include: participating downtown businesses will be open so you can dine and shop; The Blennerhassett Museum will be open until 5 p.m. (admission $4 for adults and $2 for children 3-12), the Oil & Gas Museum will offer free admission from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and the Mid-Ohio Valley Model Railroad Museum will be open until 6:30 p.m. with free admission (donations accepted); live entertainment; music; kids crafts; pictures with Santa; the showing of a Christmas movie; train rides; a reading of a Christmas children’s story; fireworks; and pick up a tasty treat at a food truck. Following the event head up Market Street to St. Francis Xavier Church for a Christmas concert starting at 7 p.m. A complete listing of events and participating locations will be on our website at downtownpkb.com and added to the Facebook event on our Facebook page @downtownpkb. Additions will be added frequently, so make sure you check back for updates.

Thank you to DuPont, our title sponsor, as well as our other sponsors – CareSource, Discovery World on Market, United Bank, WVU Medicine Camden Clark, Maka Mia Pizza, and Mulberry Lane Country Store for sponsoring our event. And a special thank you to the City of Parkersburg and The Blennerhassett Hotel for assisting us with Winterfest.
