PKB is the place to connect. Young professionals, growing families, long-time residents, and visitors are drawn to downtown by their common love of the place - a place where they can appreciate life, join the movement, and be part of what happens next!

Arts & Cultural Designation (ad hoc)

Downtown's unique assets are by far our arts and cultural organizations. Our plan is to work on seeking grant funding to market these assets by designating downtown as an "arts and cultural district." Other projects for this committee's focus would be incorporating more public art into our events and throughout downtown.

Downtown Design

Downtown Design supports a community's transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the commercial district apart. Our plan is to work on various projects including working on a lighting plan with the City to improve the appearance and safety of downtown in key entertainment areas. Other initiatives include formalizing an ambassador program for downtown to fund improvements in landscaping, signage, etc.

Historic Preservation

Main Street America has been helping to revitalize older and historic commercial districts for more than 35 years. Made up of small towns, mid-sized communities, and urban commercial districts, Main Street America represents the broad diversity that makes this country so unique. Our plan is to establish a preservation committee that will be focused on historic preservation projects and investigating the possibility of expanding the Downtown Central Business District into the historic designation. West Virginia's Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit jumped from 10 percent to 25 percent and coupled with the federal 20 percent, a developer could now deduct 45 percent of their expenses when renovating a historic building.
