Projects

Downtown Parkersburg is the place where we come together to make our downtown a place for everyone to enjoy.

Projects

This is the place to think outside the box, to give warm welcomes, and take pride in your city.

Light Post Flower Baskets
In May of 2021, light post flower baskets were added from the 300 to the 800 block of Market Street. The flower baskets bring more color to downtown and are a nice complement to our pole banners and metalwork that line the street.

The flowers are grown at Butcher Family Farm and installed in the spring and maintained all summer through September by Greenscape Landscape. Each basket is sponsored by individuals or businesses and will include a sign with the sponsor’s name. The cost to sponsor a basket pays for the planting, watering, and maintenance of the basket.

Thank you to this year’s sponsors!

Once all installs are complete, a self-guided walking tour handout will be available to assist you. These locations are a great place for senior pictures or just to show you’ve visited our area! Metal Artwork
Metal artwork in the form of bees, butterflies, and flowers line Market Street in downtown Parkersburg. The beautiful artwork created by the artists of the Wood County Society’s Artbeat Studio is a great addition to the landscape of downtown. Each piece took an average of 14 hours each to create, including the fabrication, sanding, priming, painting, and sealing of the work to ensure durability. This project was a collective effort of the Wood County Society Artbeat Studio, the City of Parkersburg, and Downtown PKB.

Downtown Parkersburg pole banners

Pole Banners

Downtown PKB’s Design Committee added decorative banners down Market Street. They serve to welcome visitors to our downtown community. Banners are changed out quarterly to freshen up Market Street and provide some colorful signage to downtown.

Downtownt Parkersburg adopt a pot

Adopt-a-Pot Program: Would you like to help us keep our flowers beautiful all summer? Downtown PKB is once again hosting our “Adopt-a-Pot” program. Download the form, complete it, and mail it in agreeing to sponsor (water and weed) a flower pot or group of pots from May through October. Downtown PKB will have a sign made with your name that will go in the pot.

Flowers will be planted in their pots during the clean-up day in May. Details on this day will be shared at a later time. We invite you to attend so you can plant the flowers in your pots, but if you cannot make it, we will assign the planting to a clean-up volunteer. Maintenance following the planting will be up to the sponsor.

If you are interested in adopting a pot/s, click here. Print the form, complete it, and mail it to Downtown PKB, PO Box 1671, Parkersburg, WV 26102, or you can email the information needed on the form to jessica@downtownpkb.com.

prospectus-3.jpg

Wood County Prospectus - Downtown PKB collaborated with Wood County Economic Development office to produce an Opportunity Zone Prospectus, first of its kind in WV, to help market our (2) Opportunity Zones nationally. It consists of old projects from Parkersburg’s past that never were quite able to come to fruition. Our hope is someone may find a good idea for a project that they’d like to do in Wood County.
