Exciting things are happening downtown
“There is simply no more cost effective, economic development program, of any type, on any scale, anywhere in the country than Main Street.” --Donovan D. Rypkema, Economics of Historic Preservation
It is an exciting time to be engaged with Downtown PKB. We’re hearing every day from community members, volunteers, and just those walking down Market Street – “boy, there’s a lot happening down here.” The recent activity (five new businesses already in 2017, eight in 2016, weekend-after-weekend of successful events and business promotions) are not happening by accident or coincidence. They are the direct result of hard work by staff and volunteers, collaboration among city and county leaders, partnerships with coordinating services, and community members themselves to get engaged with downtown.
This is not the time to stand back and watch. It is the time to jump in – whether as a volunteer at an event, as a consumer at one of restaurants or shops, or as a financial partner. We are experiencing tremendous growth and the opportunities ahead are endless.
Here are just a few ways you can join us in this important work:
Volunteer during our Clean-Up Green-Up Day on Saturday, May 20th. We’ll meet at 9am in front of the Point Park Marketplace and provide everything you need to help make our downtown beautiful. This day is made possible through a grant from BB&T’s Lighthouse Initiative and the Wood County Solid Waste Authority. Free lunch will be provided for all volunteers. RSVP through the Facebook event.
Attend the first Point Park Concert Series concert on Friday, June 2nd at the Point. Admission is free and food/beverages will be available for purchase. The Point Park Concert Series title sponsor is Aspire Salon, located on Market Street. For a complete list of our other generous business sponsors, visit our website at www.downtownpkb.com/concert
Purchase tickets for the 12th Annual Taste of Parkersburg on Saturday, June 3rd. Sip and savor the flavor as you enjoy samples of food, wine and beer from some the best restaurants and vendors in the Mid-Ohio Valley. A very limited number of reserved tables are also still available. Find more information at www.downtownpkb.com/top
Partner with us. In February, we launched a brand-new Partners Program that invites individuals and corporations to make a tax-deductible donation to Downtown PKB and enjoy exclusive benefits such as early ticket purchases, unique advertising opportunities and much more.
