The Design Committee is responsible for enhancing the downtown’s physical environment by capitalizing on its best assets including historic buildings. The Design Committee works to enhance the visual qualities of downtown with buildings, storefronts, parking areas, landscaping, window displays and all other physical elements. Design committee meets the third Thursday at noon in the Downtown PKB office.
- Vacant Storefront Program
Downtown PKB’s Vacant Storefront Program’s (VSP) primary objective, therefore, is to repurpose vacant storefronts until they can be filled with permanent tenants or residents. This is accomplished by occupying vacant storefronts with visually attractive window displays produced by creative individuals and organizations. This not only gives potential exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their work, but draws attention to what otherwise is an empty space.
The Business Outreach committee is responsible for assisting existing businesses while encouraging new businesses to the community. This group oversees the business climate of the town and works to strengthen downtown’s existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base through workshops, recruitment and implementation of new space. By helping existing businesses expand and recruiting new businesses to respond to today’s market, the Main Street program helps convert unused spaces into productive properties and sharpens the competitiveness of business enterprises. Business Outreach committee meets the third Wednesday at noon in the Downtown PKB office.
The Promotions committee is responsible for creating a positive image that will build community pride and improve consumer and investor confidence in the Downtown area. This is created through programs and events that promote businesses and activities in the downtown. Promotions committee communicates your commercial district’s unique characteristics, business establishments, and activities to shoppers, investors, potential business and property owners, and visitors. Promotions committee meets the first Tuesday of each month at noon in the Downtown PKB office.
The Organizational committee has the responsibility of involving the community’s stakeholders, getting everyone working toward a common goal and driving the volunteer-based program. Volunteers are coordinated and supported by the Executive Director of Downtown PKB. This structure not only divides the workload and clearly delineates responsibilities; it builds consensus and cooperation among the various stakeholders. This committee is also responsible for Public Relations, Communications and the financial strength of Downtown PKB. Our Financial and Communications committees are sub-committees under this committee. Organizational committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Downtown PKB office.
The Communications Committee is committed to communicating and marketing the efforts by Downtown PKB and the other committees. We use a strategic approach and pull resources within the committee to execute a strong message about downtown awareness, events and businesses. If you would like to join our committee we meet the 2nd Thursday of each month at noon.
